Let's just say that this particular day day will be a tough day to beat. We were lucky enough to see many wondrous sights, and chief among these was the Great Wall of China. This has been a dream to see for many years, and we are happy to say it surpassed our expectations.
We decided to see the section known as the Mutianyu Great Wall (we found out it was the same section our cousin's Peter and Kari and their sons also visited!).
The day started by getting picked up by our tour guide Demi, and being driven roughly 90 minutes to the Mutianyu Great Wall. From there, we hopped on a small tour bus to take us up to the chairlift, that would take us to one of the towers, so we could start our adventure.
Below are some pictures from the Wall. It is hard to properly capture just how steep the grade is on some of the sections, but believe me, if you have any fear of heights (as I and Michelle do), some sections were a real challenge. But we and the kids did climb all the way up to the Great Corner Tower (as far as you could go on the section we hiked). It was tiring, but so worth it!
Below are some pictures of the track, and of us coming down. It was so much fun!
The Summer Palace - Beijing, China
If anyone ever has plans on visiting Beijing, and would like to be treated as well as we have by a guide who really knows her stuff, and goes the extra mile for her clients, then please contact Demi, you won't regret it. We just found out she works on her own now but we were matched with her through Boutique Tours who were so great to work with. They will even drive us to the train station at 6am on Monday!
Finally, apologies that this blog entry is so long. The day just contained so much fun stuff, that we wanted to share it all of it with you.
